Ahead of Time

What does the museum of 2050 look like?

What does the museum of the future look like? The changing demographics of the city results in a new demand, taste and target group for all museums. Visualizing the museum of 2050, today’s challenges will be a thing of the past: both physical and social barriers are disappearing and art taste and consumption changes along with the new demographics of society. What are the current shortcomings and blind spots of today’s museum and what measures can be taken to outgrow these challenges?

When we create the museum of the future, we simultaneously look at its history: to a large degree, Dutch museums are historically rooted and embedded in the national culture. Do they provide an accurate narrative of Dutch historical art and how can we increase the representation of the many cultures Dutch history has known and affected?

After the panels and discussions, we continue the session with a workshop on how to move towards inclusivity as a museum. In this session, we will work with a group of professionals working in the sector, aiming to answer the question of what the institutions can do in this day and age to become more inclusive. Prepare for a creative and activating afternoon full of inspiration to take to the workplace!
