IDFA presents: Good Neighbours

Good Neighbors shows how two power women from Rotterdam are committed unconditionally to their fellow citizens.

Good Neighbors shows how two power women from Rotterdam are committed unconditionally to their fellow citizens, where they bend or break with official rules where necessary to fight loneliness in the city. If Ada and Wilma are already gone, the camera will stay in the home of the elderly for a while. The distressing loneliness shows its true face. This film is one of the special documentaries about urban issues that has been selected by IDFA and WeMakeTheCity.

Neighbor women Ada and Wilma are working as volunteers on a campaign by the municipality of Rotterdam against loneliness among the elderly. In 2013 a woman was found in that city who had been found dead in her house for ten years. Never again, all concerned stated. Together the two go door to door, armed with an extensive questionnaire, looking for lonely elderly people. They meet, among others, Jan, widower and very agile. Tilly is still spry but she also suffers from the lack of real contact, even though she is the last to admit that. But the silent Wilma and bold Ada pierce the socially desirable answers and get to work.
