Ceuvel Sessions Raft Jam with Haddis Alemayehu & Imaginary Millions

Addis Ababa meets London in Amsterdam!

During WemakeThe.City we're going to do a special edition of the Ceuvel Sessions! On the floating raft outside we're putting together the amazing Haddis from Addis Ababa together with the guys from Imaginary Millions from London!

Born in Ethiopia in 1991, Haddis Alemayehu is a rising star in Addis Ababa’s emerging international music scene. HaddinQo has been leading the revival of the traditional MasinQo instrument in the context of the Addis Ababa jazz and pop scene, playing live performances with some of Ethiopia’s most famous artists, including the legendary Mulatu Astatke, singer Gash Mahmoud Ahmed and renowned Kirar musician Seleshi Demese, as well as major pop stars including Teddy Afro and Betty G. As one of Future Cities protagonists, Haddis was invited to Amsterdam during the WeMakeTheCity festival.

Haddis will be working together with the guys from Imaginary Millions, coming over from London. Imaginary Millions starts by asking the audience for their beautiful attention, and let them know that the two mics at the front are always on. There is no sign up sheet. Once the first person gets up with a poem, rap, song or even a thought the band works around them, matches their mood, follows their flow and then when they’re done, we celebrate their vulnerability. Swinging the mood from quiet atmospheric to boom-bap hip hop, from lo-fi beats to straight jamming. Nothing is planned; everything is perfect. All we ask is, ‘What’s Possible From Here?’
