Charles Landry (UK) is an author and thinker on the future of cities. Through his work, he aims to help cities to become more resilient and self-sustaining by triggering inventiveness. The concept of the Creative City was coined by him in the 1980’s and introduced the use of imagination and creativity in urban change. Relatedly, Charles developed the Creative City Index – a tool to measure, evaluate and address innovative eco-systems of cities and their capacity to adapt to radical global shifts – which has addressed almost 25 cities by now. In 1978, Charles founded the think tank Comedia and currently he is a fellow of the Robert Bosch Academy in Berlin. His latest project is ‘The Civic City in a Nomadic World’, connecting his writings over the past decade in one picture-driven work.
