Future Cities is an award-winning visual storytelling project about five exciting and upcoming cities around the world. In the expo’s speakers corner protagonists from the subject cities tell about the buzz in their hometowns. In this edition: Aung Soe Min, artist, art collector and founder of three buzzing galeries in Yangon, Myanmar.
During the half century Myanmar spent under military rule, the fine arts were repressed. Aung Soe Min founded a library and a literary festival when books were banned. Although he was arrested several times, he continued to work with prominent poets, writers, and artists of the resistance movement to military rule.
Now, Aung Soe Min is leading the cultural revival in his city. He creates spaces and events to help artists to earn a steadier living and brings art to a much wider public. In this meetup he explains why art is a more important basis for the new society than the emerging capitalism in Myanmar.
A three-in-one experience: visit the exhibition, meet the protagonists and learn more about the vibrant cultural scene in Yangon.
